We went to Tokyo and Yokohama.

Amanda said-

I love how Japan has such respect for the old and traditional buildings. Rather than tear down and rebuild something ultramodern, Japan has the practice of refurbishing and sometimes, building something new right into the existing old structure. What a way to honor the past while still moving forward.

歴史を感じる建築物の上にに近代的なビルが建てられているのを見て

全部取り壊すのではなく、古い建築を大事に残しつつ新しいビルを建てる、
これがとても印象的だったそうです。

サンデイも同じ印象を持ったようです。

娘も合流して東京を散策しました。

My daughter joined us for our day of sightseeing around Tokyo and we enjoyed the time together.

Amanda said-

It was SUCH a joy to see Ami again! Ami and Amanda share the same Latin name root, but the similarities don’t stop there. It was a fun afternoon together.

アマンダと亜美は年齢が同じばかりでなく、その名前の由来も共通しているのです。２人は久しぶりに合えて会話も弾んでいたようです。

I too always take pictures of train stations when I take trips to foreign countries.

私も海外に旅行に行くとサンデイと同じように必ず電車のホームを撮ります。

サンデイは駅の構内にある目の不自由な人のためのこの黄色いラインに興味を持っていました。

Amanda said-

Public transport in Japan is so different from that in Singapore. It’s equally crowded, but much quieter. Plus, the seats were heated. It’s probably a good thing Singapore’s are not.

日本の交通手段はシンガポールと違っていて

同じように混んではいるけれど、ずっと静かだし

シートが暖かいのがいいわ、との事です。

"Women only" train cars were intriguing to Amanda's family. Amanda said that she doesn't use trains in Buffalo but does now that she lives in Singapore. However, she avoids them in the morning due to overcrowding, and takes the bus instead.

女性専用車両はアマンダ一家の目を引きました。

アマンダはバッファローでは電車を使いませんでしたが、

シンガポールで通勤で使っています。

でも、朝のラッシュ時はバスを使っています。

We boarded on Sea bus: "Seabass" to go to Minatomirai.

シーバスに乗って、みなとみらいに。

We enjoyed the beautiful sunset.
夕方になって日が沈むのがとても美しく見れました。

Sandie was interested in the hot plastic bottles of tea in the vending machines. "How do you warm them?" she asked. She was intrigued to find out that half of the bottles in the machine are chilled beverages, and half are hot.
Actually I haven't seen hot drinks sold in vending machines in the U.S.A.


サンデイは自動販売機の暖かいお茶のペットボトルに興味津々。
どうやって暖めているの？
同じ自販機の中で半分は冷たいペットボトル、半分は熱いペットボトル。
確かに、アメリカで自販機に熱いペットボトルは見かけませんでした。

Amanda said-
Later on in the trip, I bought one of the hot milk teas from the vending machine at Tetsuji’s company lodge. I thought it was such a cool experience to get a hot drink from a vending machine.

後日、夫が勤めていた会社の研修所に泊まった時に
アマンダは自販機で熱いお茶を買ったのが面白い体験になったそうです。
